Jacqueline Spedding is a sculpture and installation artist whose artwork encompasses a range of materials including clay, natural and found materials.

Shelter is a site-specific installation that explores the multi-layered history of habitation and use of the Woodford Academy. History is imprinted throughout the building and is a tangible, lived experience for visitors moving through its many rooms. In a similar way, the remnant shells of cicadas record the life of the creatures that emerged from them. Both the house and the shells are dwellings that record time and the rhythm of life, past and present. By locating the cicada shells within the Woodford Academy, Jacqueline invites visitors to consider connections between our ideas of 'nature' and 'culture'.
