Jacqueline Spedding is a visual artist based in the Blue Mountains. Clay, found objects and locally collected organic material form the basis of her sculpture and installations. She sees this process as a collaboration of materials that grows and expands with each new work.
In 2012 Jacqueline set up Cascade Artist Studios, which she managed for five years. In 2017 she moved to the Old Lithgow Pottery joining the long line of potters that occupied that site since 1879. In 2019 she returned to the mountains with plans of joining Freedom Wilson in the Powerhouse Lane studios in 2020. Jacqueline’s artwork has been exhibited in public and private galleries, artist-run initiatives and non-traditional art spaces. Her site-specific installations have been exhibited locally at the NSW National Trust Property, the Woodford Academy, in 2014 and 2017, and at Scenic World, Katoomba, where she won the major acquisitive award in the sculpture prize in 2014. Jacqueline’s work has been exhibited at the Blue Mountains City Art Gallery (Katoomba, NSW), Regional Art Space (Dubbo, NSW), Royal Botanic Gardens (Sydney, NSW) and ArtXchange Gallery (Seattle, USA). Her work was included in a national review of ceramics, Homebrand, at Casula Powerhouse and Hatched, a national review of emerging artists held annually at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. Jacqueline graduated from Sydney College of the Arts in 2012 with a Master of Fine Arts majoring in ceramics including six months exchange to the Master of Ceramics program at Cardiff School of Art and Design in the UK. She has taught fine art and ceramics as a casual lecturer for TAFE NSW, Sydney College of the Arts and Federation University. |
